Putting the financials aside, the Rangers landed a slick puck-moving defenseman, one of the most consistent in the league. Shattenkirk reached at least 43 points in all six non-lockout years of his career, including a career-high 56 last season which he split with the Blues and Capitals. He also fills the Rangers’ need for a true right-handed power play quarterback.
I think the opportunity on the power play is a place I feel confident and can help this team, but my goal is to come in here and be a phenomenal defenseman in all aspects of the game, Shattenkirk said.
Wingels was not trying to change the result of the game, as it is pretty much physically impossible to score seven hockey goals in 15 seconds. He was not even making a legitimate play on the puck. He might, though, have been trying to change the result of Game 6 by affecting Wilson’s availability.
Wilson has recorded 10 shots, two points and a plus-1 rating in the Ottawa series. He has registered 40 hits during 13 playoff games, including 10 in Pittsburgh’s must-have Game 2 victory against the Senators. On Monday, Pittsburgh coach Mike Sullivan said Wilson is fine, and should be available for Game 6 on Tuesday.
Only one Predators player has scored multiple goals in the Final, and that’s Gaudreau, who’s earned the not-quite-original nickname Freddy Hockey.
He’s amazing. That’s what the playoffs is all about, guys stepping up at the right time, Predators defenseman Ryan Ellis said. That’s really how we’ve gotten this far. Different guys stepping up who may not be in the lineup one game, coming up with a big one in the next. Freddy’s no different. He’s another guy who’s really getting it done for us right now.
